Abstract: Based on current situation of traffic jam in old urban district of medium-sized cities,this paper studies the causes of traffic jam through analyzing traffic characteristics and problems in old urban district of Xuzhou City,and puts forward countermeasures from aspects of optimizing urban planning,improving service level of public transportation,perfecting road network system and through traffic,and developing slow traffic and traffic facilities.
